Brightling Park Horse Trials is about to hold its
fifteenth event.
The event is held in beautiful Sussex parkland which has the unusual attraction of several eighteenth century
follies such as “the Sugar Loaf” and “the Temple". These follies were created by "Mad Jack"
Fuller, a wealthy eccentric from the iron industry, who owned the property between 1757 and 1834.
|
| He had much of the area around the house landscaped by Capability Brown, and the
remains, including the walled garden and a series of ponds, can still be seen. |
 |
The parkland has been restored to its former glory by the present
owners, the Grissell family. This was supported by the Countryside Commission and English Heritage
who contributes a grant for the maintenance and recreation of “historic landscapes”.
